Wyse Technology UK Ltd of Twyford, Berkshire has a new family of terminals that are designed to meet the Swedish guidelines for electromagnetic transmissions. The ES family comprises the WY-120ES, the high performance WY-160ES and the DEC VT320-compatible WY-185ES. The WY-120ES offers multiple operating modes and three ports, two serial and one parallel. ANSI modes include DEC VT220 as well as the VT100 and VT52. The WY-160ES supports several graphics modes and four personal computer graphics modes. It offers standard parallel and serial ports and supports a broad range of ASCII, ANSI and personal computer modes. The WY-185ES provides DEC VT320 compatibility with enhancements such as a high resolution character mode. It offers a choice of communication ports. All comply with the Swedish guidelines that measure electromagnetic radiation. There is little evidence that radiation from displays does much harm, and even with the new ones, there will be pressure for women not to work at them while pregnant, but a European Community directive of May 1990, 90/270/EEC, is leading to government legislation requiring that all video displays bought after 1992 meet the minimum health and safety laws. After 1996, all equipment that does not conform to the minimum requirements will have to be replaced. The ES family is available now. The WY-120 ES is UKP545, the WY-160ES is UKP635 and the WY-185ES UKP525.
