WYSE SHIPS SANTA CRUZ’s SYMMETRIC MULTIPROCESSING UNIX EXTENSION

By CBR Staff Writer

Wyse Technology said last week that it’s shipping Santa Cruz Operation Inc’s MPX 3.0 multiprocessor extension bundled with its 7000i platform, scalable to five processing units. Wyse has been shipping Santa Cruz Unix on its 6000i and 7000i servers since August. In six weeks it captured 10% of its server sales, Wyse said. In October, Wyse expanded its server line with the entry-level 3000i available pre-installed with Santa Cruz Unix. It will shortly bring in a replacement box, code named ET, that will reportedly have a larger chassis and be more like a mini-tower. The uniprocessor will be based on an 80486SX upgradable to the P24T. It will be one of three new servers it brings in. Meanwhile, Wyse also announced its intention to support Unix Systems Group’s System V.4.2 ES/MP. It will provide an upgrade path for its System V.3.2 and System V.4 installations. It reckons it will be ready with the stuff by the second half of next year.
