The worldwide cellular baseband processor market showed a 17.5% year-on-year growth to reach $3.63bn in the second quarter of 2011, according to Strategy Analytics report.

The report, "Baseband Market Share Tracker: Qualcomm, MediaTek and Intel Battle for Top Spot in 1H 2011," said Qualcomm topped the market with a market share of 41.7%, followed by Intel, MediaTek, Texas Instruments and ST-Ericsson.

The report added that impressive unit shipment and revenue growth were registered by most baseband vendors in the second quarter of 2010.

Strategy Analytics found Broadcom and Spreadtrum as two of the fastest growing baseband companies with estimated triple-digit growth in unit shipment in Q2 2011.

A 76% year-on-year growth was registered by Intel W-CDMA baseband shipments, with 35% of total baseband shipments were W-CDMA, Strategy Analytics said.
