NEC Corp has launched what it claims are the world’s smallest pagers, in three models: a Wide Alpha four-line alphanumeric display, an Alpha two-line alphanumeric display and a numeric only digital display pager; the Wide Alpha is claimed to be the world’s most compact four-line pager, with 80-character display and multi-lingual capability, able to display of up to six character sets besides English; the Alpha model weighs only 3oz and is smaller than a pack of playing cards, while the DDP model weighs 2.5oz and has a 16-message memory, time stamp and memory back-up function; NEC, which supplies equipment to both NTT and the Telemessage group, is hoping to shift 1.5m of the three models.
