World’s ‘largest tablet’ arrives in the UK

Online grocery retailer Ocado launches a 42-inch tablet for £597.

By Amy-Jo Crowley

A tablet that is said to be the "world’s largest" has gone on sale in the UK in an effort to take on Samsung’s Galaxy Note Pro and Apple’s rumoured iPad pro.

Ocado launched the sLablet this morning, which has a 42-inch 3840 X 2160 display and runs on the Android 4.2.2 operating system.

The £597 device comes with an Intel quad-core processor, along with a 12 megapixel camera, 300 mbps of Wi-Fi and a strap mount system, which the company claims can be used to carry the device around the neck.

The UK-based company, which employs around 350 software engineers and technical specialists, said it expects the device to rival other supermarket tablets.

Neil Simmons, VPof Quadro-Fabricated Division at Ocado, said: "The market for tablets of this size is literally massive. Precision-engineered and weighing in at a svelte 35,000 grammes, the sLablet has been designed with every consumer in mind, from David Haye to Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson."

"We thought, why be shackled by the constraints of a 7" tablet? We wanted to escape the claustrophobic conformity that these devices were inexplicably enforcing on consumers."
