World Travel Online, New York, is to distribute a software package enabling the personal computer user to dial into an on-line, full service travel agency and instantly view thousands of travel destinations in full colour, with text descriptions. Using compression technology, video images wrapped with text are instantly transmitted over ordinary phone lines. Callers dialling the service can download the picture viewing software, available in both MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows operating environments, and dial back using the application. Subscribers can access tourism brochures and hotels around the world and interact with travel experts. Users can electronically transmit one-minute travel video clips for viewing on their computer. For longer form travel videos, an on-line service offers 250 travel destinations on videotape for home delivery within three days. All state and foreign tourism brochures will also be available for home delivery at no extra charge. Subscribers pay a $12 annual fee and a 10 cents per minute access charge.
