Irvine, California-based Workstation Technologies Inc has what it claims is the first ompression-decompression board that combines audio, video and data processing for desktop video communications on a single board. The company says the Chameleon supports International Telecommunication Union H.320 standards and will support the proposed H.32P protocol for analogue videoconferencing, when approved. The board can be configured to support the Personal Conferencing Specification, as well as video compression standards including H.261, JPEG, Motion JPEG, and MPEG-1. Audio compression standards supported include G.711, G.722, G.728 and CELP, says the company. Dialling other call control functions are said to be implemented through an optional Telephone API Service Provider Interface, providing a standard interface between Windows videoconferencing applications and the network. Finally, a VCOM driver provides a standard data transport interface. Chameleon is out now at beta sites with production qua ntities next quarter. No prices were given.
