WordPerfect Corp, Orem, Utah headlined a string of announcements with the news that it has acquired MagicSoft Inc, a Lombard, Illinois company that specialises in telecommunications software. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. MagicSoft’s key products are MTEZ, a data communications package, and ExpressFax, a facsimile communications package, and WordPerfect started working with MagicSoft in April last year to create the communications for its WordPerfect Works, the integrated software package that shipped in March. The word processing software developer was being drawn into the Lotus Development Corp-Novell Inc merger before that alliance fell apart, and it has renewed its acquaintance with its Utah neighbour, saying that the two will work together to provide the highest degree of integration between applications and network operating systems to ensure that users that have both WordPerfect and NetWare can work more effectively on networks. The first step will be development of a NetWare Loadable Module for the WordPerfect Office suite that offers electronic mail, diaries and group scheduling. And it has licensed Adobe Systems Inc Type Manager for integration into WordPerfect.
