Hewlett-Packard Co’s Convex Computer Corp is going to have to be quick on its feet: Cray Research Inc has hired Wizard Systems Inc to develop an application source compiler and meta data converter it says will automatically convert applications written in the Convex Fortran dialect, including library references, directives and operating system dependencies, into Cray F90 dialect. Applications can be re-compiled for Cray systems. The meta data converter will convert Convex UniTree or CSM file management information into Cray Data Migration Facility hierarchical storage information. Cray is developing Data Migration Facility to enable UniTree and CSM data files to be read by its systems.
