Taiwan’s Elitegroup Computer Systems Co Ltd is best known for its motherboards, but the company has just picked up two monster US orders for complete personal computers, and so has decided to invest $11.5m to build an assembly plant in the US, which will open in September. The location was not disclosed, but the company told Reuter that the two contracts came from CompUSA Inc and the US Navy. CompUSA is in for $300m of machines starting at a rate of 1,000 a month and rising to 3,000 a month. The Navy order is for 3,000 machines a month for the next 18 months.
