Wipro’s business process outsourcing operation, which employs over 20,000 people plans to provide customer service along with technical and financial accounting support to the company’s global operations through its centre in Cebu, Philippines.
The company said it will initially hire 900 employees for the 45,000 square-foot facility.
T K Kurien, president of outsourcing unit at Wipro said: The Philippines is one of the largest English-speaking nations with a strong IT orientation and a talent pool of 29 million. He added that the company was also assessing opportunities to start centers in other cities of Philippines.
Wipro has opened its outsourcing units in other countries to cater to niche markets. Two years ago, it opened a centre in Romania for the European non-English speaking market, while in early 2007, it opened centers in Shanghai and Mexico.
