Physicians at the hospital will employ the Invision Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) software to enter patient care orders directly into its clinical databases and review medical profiles online via a virtual private network.
In addition to CPOE, the hospital’s plan also includes the installation of Siemens Med Administration Check, which uses bar code technology to verify the five rights of administration. This program, according to Siemens, automates, tracks and supports accuracy throughout the medication-use process.
Winthrop will also roll out a wireless infrastructure, providing physicians and clinicians with encrypted, remote access to patients’ test results and medical records, and the ability to order prescriptions and tests via mobile computers.
The implemented Siemens medical imaging equipment will include two e.cam gamma cameras, an Axiom Artis dBA biplane flat panel interventional angiography system and its Somatom Sensation 64 computed tomography (CT) scanner. These will be incorporated into Winthrop’s existing Siemens Sienet picture archiving and communication system (PACS).
