Microsoft Corp has announced an update to Windows95 that ought to solve the problem of size limits when saving video files. Anyone trying to work on non-linear editing using a personal computer will quickly run into the file size limitation of 2Gb – enough space to hold a couple of minutes good quality video. The new Windows95 (update 2 V950b) adds a 32bit file system. In theory this would do away with file size problem and allow a single continuous video file, although no one at Microsoft seems able to tell us whether this is true or not. The bad news is that the release is solely for OEM customers, meaning it will appear on new machines only and will not be available as an update for existing machines.
