The president and chief executive of real-time operating systems vendor Wind River Systems Inc, Ronald Abelmann, has announced his intention to step down as head of the company. Abelmann will continue in the role until the annual shareholder’s meeting on June 23. Then, Jerry Fiddler, chairman of the board will take the helm while the company searches for a replacement.

A spokesperson said that Abelmann’s decision had been a surprise for all of us. He suggested that Abelmann, who is in his early sixties, wanted to cut his workload. Abelmann took over as CEO five years ago, and saw revenues grow nearly five-fold. Revenues in fiscal 1999 rose 40% from the previous year to $129.4m. He will remain on the board of the company.
