Wincor Nixdorf said its new eLock Banking technology, which includes fault rectification and regular replenishment and removal of cash, will eliminate the use of mechanical keys by deploying the Leicher Safelock WTU electronic safe lock.

Fast cash top-ups and service technician visits have traditionally involved mechanical keys, generally carried in courier vehicles on replenishment rounds which have proven complicated and time-consuming.

Wincor Nixdorf says its security software package will replace this method by generating an encrypted unlocking code and transmitting it to the cash-in-transit courier on site. This code is valid for a set period of time, after which it ceases to work, and works with a four-digit personal PIN number like that of an ATM card to enable the technician to open the safe lock.

Additionally, Wincor Nixdorf said that the new program reduces the economic risk associated with operating ATMs.
