Tulsa, Oklahome-based Williams Cos’ WilTel International is extending its WilPak Frame Relay service to the main financial centres in Europe, in partnership with IDB Worldcom and Reuters (Holdings) Plc. WiTtel will start with StrataCom Inc IPX switches installed in London and Frankfurt, reflecting the majority of European connection requests the company has received from curroent WilPak users in the US, and from prospective customers. General availability is set for January. Convex Computer Corp and Sybase Inc will be first to use the service. Diversely routed international fibre-optic links are supplied via IDB Communications Group Inc: IDB Worldcom is now also using WilTel’s US network to expand its long distance telephone origination capabilities to include all major business locations US-wide. The telecommunications division of Reuters Ltd, has been chosen as the facilities management partner for the European extension of WilTel’s Frame Relay network. WilTel, formed when oil services company Williams Co’s realised that its disused pipelines in the West were ideal repositories of fibre optic cable, is also now looking at extending WilPak into Asia.
