WILLIAMS TELECOMMUNICATIONS TO EXTEND ITS FIBRE OPTIC TELEPHONE NETWORK

By CBR Staff Writer

Williams Cos’ Williams Telecommunications Group Corp wants to extend its fibre optic telephone network, which currently runs from Chicago to LA (nearly two thousand miles all the way for those who get their kicks on Bobby Troup’s Route 66) coast-to coast by the end of the year at an estimated cost of $58m, and as a first step has a letter of intent to buy the Chicago-to Cleveland link – with a spur from Toledo to Detroit – from the RCI Corp unit of Rochester Telephone Corp.
