Williams Cos Inc says it has not set any deadline to respond to that offer from LDDS Communications Inc, Jackson, Mississippi to buy its WilTel Communications subsidiary; in 1993, WilTel contributed about 22% of operating profit and 28% of cash flow of Williams Companies; it is the fourth largest long-distance carrier in the US, but is not very visible, because much of its capacity is leased to resellers – including LDDS, its second largest customer; a combined WilTel-LDDS would have about 4% of the long-distance market, behind Sprint Corp, 10%, MCI Communications Corp, 20% and AT&T Corp, now down to 60%.
