Ilford, Essex-based Wilding Office Equipment Plc, has opened the first of nine UK Systems Centres. The London site will act as showroom and reference centre for the Southern region, and will be followed by a second centre in the first quarter of 1990, probably in Bristol or Manchester. The company has been in the personal computer business for the past four years, and says it is currently shifting 1,200 machines per month. Wilding originally entered the market with Amstrad PCW word processors, but it has expanded its portfolio and now stocks IBM, Olivetti, Toshiba, and Brother, as well as Psion portables. It hasn’t yet applied for status as an IBM Systems Centre, but is authorised up to PS/2 Model 80s, and says that it intends to apply next year. Wilding has enlarged its range of services, and under the Wilding Charter, now offers networking and software applications. The new services will be targeted at its existing customer base, many of whom started with a stand-alone computer and have since added further machines. Wilding believes that these users would benefit from sharing resources and data in a local area networked environment, and intends to provide the training and hot-line support needed by multi-users.
