Former colleagues of the WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange are creating an alternative website for leaks.
Herbert Snorrason, an Icelandic programmer who is involved, said the new website, OpenLeaks, will start operating this summer.
Snorrason said the website aims to avoid the influence of a single figurehead.
Last September about a dozen members of WikiLeaks left the organisation after disagreements with Assange. The defectors decided to start their own project, said Snorrason.
The new project is partly run by Daniel Domscheit-Berg, a programmer who previously worked as Assange’s deputy.
Domscheit-Berg said they are creating a more transparent society, not create a transparent society while sneaking around in the shadows.
He added, "The new site must not contain any politics and personal preferences or personal dislikes about whatever you’re going to publish or what you must not publish."
Those behind OpenLeaks have made it clear that they do not see themselves as Assange’s competitors.
