Ottawa, Canada-based Wi-LAN has filed two separate actions for the alleged violation of three of its patents by making or selling various products, including wireless routers, modems, and notebooks. The patents relate to WiFi and power consumption in DSL products.
Wi-LAN said it wants the defendants, which include chip makers, equipment vendors, and retailers, to license its technology. In 2004, Wi-LAN sued Cisco for allegedly violating its WiFi patents. Cisco, in 2005, settled with Wi-LAN by agreeing to buy some of Wi-LAN’s patents and pay royalties for others.
The other companies named in Wi-LAN’s recent suits are Acer, Atheros Communications, Belkin International, Best Buy Co, Broadcom, Buffalo Technology, Circuit City Stores, D-Link, Gateway, Infineon Technologies, Marvell Semiconductor, Netgear, Texas Instruments, Westell Technologies, and 2Wire.
