Oil giant BP has signed a five-year deal with Infosys to provide IT services.
The outsourcing firm will focus on application support and maintenance as BP tries to develop new business applications and improve IT across its operations.
They include corporate functions, energy trading and marketing across BP’s bases in Texas and the UK, as well as other locations as far flung as Singapore and Brazil.
Infosys has also committed to training engineers in BP processes at its Infosys Information Systems and Technology University.
Its VP of energy, communications and services, Rajesh Murthy, said: "Winning this contract demonstrates how we have evolved as a supplier and continue to work collaboratively with BP across their range of activities."
Neither party disclosed the value of the deal, but Infosys said it is one of the biggest it has ever signed.
It comes after the firms reached a similar five-year agreement in 2009, expiring this year. It’s also further evidence of BP’s tendency to outsource after signing a $400m deal with HP to provide global data centre services in 2010.
