Update on who is making what in the way of personal computers in the US: NEC is making 12,000 MS-DOS micros a month in Boxboro Massachusetts, and expanding; Epson is making 4,000 units per month in Portland, Oregon and expanding; Toshiba Corp is making 10,000 laptops a month in Irvine California, and expanding; Mitsubishi Electric Corp is making 10,000 units per month in Torrance, California; Sharp Corp is doing 3,000 per month in Memphis Tennessee; and Sanyo Electric 1,000 per month in Monarchy New Jersey; annual output in Japan totals 2m machines, of which the domestic market absorbs 1.2m; by contrast, the total US market amounts to some 5m units.
