Whittaker Corp only bought Xyplex Inc, Boxborough, Massachusetts a year ago (CI No 2,878) but already it is thinking better of it, and has hired an investment advisor to assist it in exploring strategic options, including a potential spin-off, sale or merger of what is now Xyplex Networks Inc as it also takes in the former Hughes Network Systems Inc. Whittaker wants to cut its debt by as much as $40m to $50m from the present $146m. Xyplex’s latest product is the EdgeBlaster remote access server for use by Internet service providers and office users worldwide.
