White Pine Software Inc and NetCentric Corp are teaming up to offer a metered, billable Internet videoconferencing service. The key attraction of the offering is said to be its ‘pay-as-you-go’ basis, and both White Pine and NetCentric anticipate that Internet Service Provider customers will want to outsource their videoconferencing rather than managing dedicated communication links themselves. Based on White Pine’s Reflector server software for control optimization and real-time videoconferencing, and NetCentric’s POPware infrastructure software authentication, authorization, allocation, analog telephony and accounting facilities, the new system is designed as a value-added service for the corporate customer bases of Internet service providers. There was no word on pricing or availability.
