Louisville, Colorado-based Storage Technology Corp has announced three enhancements to the Small Computer System Interface on its nine-track 9914 OEM tape subsystem: it now offers Fast SCSI as defined by the SCSI-2 specifications for transfer rates of up to 10M-bytes per second synchronous, 7M-bytes per second asynchronous, compared with the 2Mbps available up to now; also both single-ended and differential capabilities are now available on one SCSI-model 9914, alleviating the need to change boards, and offering better flexibility for the user; the buffer size is also increased to 2Mb from 512Kb so that tape repositioning is masked and fast-burst host transfers are accepted, to increase the throughput.
