National Semiconductor Corp, Santa Clara, California, has announced the HPC+, a 16-bit CMOS microcontroller with a cycle time of 50nS: the product provides signal processing and microcontroller capabilities for embedded servo applications; in addition to the HPC 16-bit core, the HPC+ includes a multiply-and-accumulate unit, an 8-bit analogue-to-digital converter, 1Kb random access memory and three processor independent-timers; the HPC+ operates at frequencies up to 40MHz and at these speeds, multiply-and-accumulate unit performs the 16-bit signed-integer multiply-and-accummulate operation that forms the basis of a digital filter implementation in 400nS; available now, the HPC46100 comes in a 14mm by 14mm 80 pin quad flat pack; it costs $23 in quantities of 1,000.
