Compaq Computer Corp’s Compaq KK Japanese subsidiary, established in September 1990 but only now getting its localised personal computers into the market, has dealer agreements with 28 companies: the eight products announced include top-end client server machines and a notebook; Compaq president Eckhardt Pfeiffer says that Compaq expects to make faster progress in the Japanese market than Apple Computer Inc did; Japanese manufacturers are said to be sceptical of Compaq’s ability to provide the service and support required in Japan, but Compaq refutes this argument by pointing to the agreements it has signed with CSK Corp, a major systems integrator, and Uchida Esco, for nationwide provision of on-site service and support.
