Despite its diversifications into printers and disk drives, Citizen Watch Co hasn’t deserted its roots completely, and its next toy will be a watch with speech recognition and voice response – but judging by the press-button speaking clock anarchic disk jockey Kenny Everett uses on his Capital Radio show, which speaks the time in a near incomprehensible synthetic female voice, the $75 Citizen will have to respond not only to What’s the time?, What’s the time?, What time did you say it was?, and Oh, never mind, just shut up and I’ll dial the speaking clock instead.
