WHAT OPERATING SYSTEM FOR THE PERSONAL SYSTEM/2?

By CBR Staff Writer

With the first 80386 models of the Personal System/2 shipping sometime between July and September, what operating system are those who want one expected to use initially? The Model 80s are very clearly designed as floor-standing multi-user machines – yet the only IBM operating system that will be available then will be single-user, single-tasking PC-DOS 3.3: OS/2 only starts appearing in the first quarter of next year, while on AIX Unix, IBM will not even be prepared to put a delivery date on it until the end of this year – which implies a substantial opportunity for all the third party vendors of 386 Unixes.
