Westminster Primary Care Trust prepares for patient data migration

The UK's Westminster Primary Care Trust is preparing for critical patient data migration as it engages in an agreement with data quality software vendor Datanomic for the supply of its full suite of data quality tools.

According to Datanomic, the technology acquisition is driven by a requirement to comply with the stringent data migration quality standards of the National Program for Information Technology (NPfIT), a major UK government investment in the national Care Records Service (CRS) system.

Westminster Primary Care Trust (Westminster PCT) serves a population of more than 220,000 people and the information migration is expected to be a significant task owing to the amount of time, resource and experience required in preparing the data to populate the new CRS system. Datamonic says Westminster PCT must ensure that its data conforms to pre-defined specifications, claiming its products will be deployed to better understand and clean patient record data.

Geoff Geaves, NPfIT program manager at Westminster PCT said, Not only does Datanomic assist us in achieving our goal of transferring data from numerous local patient administration systems, but the product can be used to monitor and police ongoing data quality that will be so necessary in so many other aspects of our day-to-day business including payment by results, SUS, searchable archiving and capacity planning.

The aim of the NPfIT is to bring modern computer systems into the NHS to improve patient care and services. Over the next 10 years it expects to connect over 30,000 GPs in England to almost 300 hospitals and give patients access to their personal health and care information, transforming the way the NHS works.
