Freed from the threat of having to file for bankruptcy and with its finances on a firmer footing, Western Union Corp, Upper Saddle River, New Jersey has moved to complete the integration of ITT World Communications with its own operations to create Western Union-WorldCom: it says that it will need to shed 1,800 employees, 25% of the total, by the end of the year, and has restructured itself into five business units – business communications services; consumer communications and financial services; priority mail services; advanced transmission systems; and network systems.
