WESTERN DIGITAL COMES OUT WITH OPTICAL STORAGE CONTROLLER BOARD, CHIP SET, ENCODER-DECODER DEVICE

Western Digital Corp, Irvine, California has come out with an optical storage controller board, chip set and an encoder-decoder device: the WD1008-OPT board is an SCSI to modified ESDI-Optical storage controller with a transfer rate of up to 15Mbits per second; the ADS-OPT8-SET3 chip set consists buffer manager, disk controller, SCSI bus interface controller, Reed Solomon Error Correction device and the optical encode-decode; the board is $250 for 1,000-up from next month, the chip set will sample in May and will be offered at less than $100.
