Weitek Corp claims that its new W4X64 floating point processor offers the highest performance yet from a single chip 100 MFLOPS peak. It is aimed at the workstation market and for massively parallel machines and has all the key functional ele-ments needed for integer, floating point and logical operations and dispenses with the need for off-chip register file. It also has a multiply-divide unit and an arithmetic-logic unit. Fabricated in 0.8 micron CMOS, it comes in two versions, W4164 with eight port register file,one 64-bit input-output port, sampling spring and W4364 with a nine port register file for concurrent multiplier and ALU operation, and three 64-bit ports, autumn; no prices given.
