Webflow Corp, collaborative-HTML software house and darling of the PC Forum set, provoked speculation last week by redirecting its homepage at www.webflow.com to Netscape’s NetCenter. Now the truth is out: Webflow closed its doors March 26, 1998. Its innovative WebProject, widely praised for inventing new groupware concepts rather than merely tranlsating Lotus Notes to the web, foundered on the shoals of an NT-only strategy. According to Bob Arasmith, former VP of engineering and founder of Webflow, attempts to bring out an NT/SQL server/IE4 version of WebProject 3 simply ran out of time and boardmember patience. Now the original development team has acquired the rights to the product as it stands and has formed a new company, Accentuate Systems Inc (www.accentuate.com). To take the NT curse off its Webflow legacy, Accentuate has swung to the other extreme: all new applications and servers will be developed exclusively in Java to run on open systems.
