The online video-conferencing service, which costs $49 a month, can now be accessed with one click by users their desktop, instant messaging service, Microsoft Outlook or other Office programs via the WebEx MediaTone Network.
The new version also includes new video capabilities that automatically finds and configures a user’s camera. A meeting host can also switch between the meeting participants’ video streams to create a virtual roundtable. There is also a new toolbar that integrates with Microsoft Office so users can launch a meeting while working on a document, spread sheet or presentation.
By adding tight integration with a productivity suite, WebEx allows users to launch meetings from within the context of their work, said Ilan Kasan, director of Cisco WebEx product management.
The service also enables users to share their desktops with others and pass control of documents or applications to other attendees.
