In an interview last week to discuss its second quarter earnings the CEO of the

German software giant admitted that while the company held discussions with

many of its partners, the question of takeover was only with Microsoft.

Revelations that Microsoft and SAP secretly held merger talks at the end of last

year arose as part of evidence presented in US Department of Justice’s court

battle to block a potential mega-merger between Oracle Corp and PeopleSoft Inc.

This has stirred up speculation among investors that SAP was open to offers.
