Storage firm Western Digital has unveiled its WD VelociRaptor 1 TB hard drive , a 10,000 RPM hard drive designed for PCs, Mac computers and professional workstations that require a balance of high performance and capacity.

The 10,000 RPM hard drive’s read and write performance across the entire disk capacity make it suitable for the creative professionals who want increase storage space.

The WD VelociRaptor is a 2.5-inch hard drive comes in the IcePack enclosure, a 3.5-inch mounting frame with built-in heat sink and it is also available in capacities of 500 GB and 250 GB.

The new release features a SATA 6 Gb/s interface, 64 MB cache and employs Advanced Format Technology to achieve capacities up to 1 TB.

The new hard drive consumes less idle power and uses similar active power as the previous generation WD VelociRaptor while offering improved capacity and performance.

It also includes a Rotary Acceleration Feed Forward (RAFF) which optimises operation and performance when the drives are used in vibration-prone, multi-drive chassis.
