Warwickshire County Council deploys Alcatel-Lucent WAN

Central management of network resources through WAN...

By CBR Staff Writer

Warwickshire County Council is deploying a county-wide Alcatel-Lucent wide area network (WAN) to enable council departments, schools and local partners to share resources and improve service provision to the Warwickshire public.

Alcatel said Warwickshire County Council’s core network, which is based on Alcatel-Lucent’s MPLS technology, is designed to provide these council properties with high-speed connectivity and greater bandwidth, extending access to council systems and network resources.

The centrally-managed offering will also enable the extension of services to other regional partners such as local Borough Councils that had previously operated their own disparate networks.

The company said Warwickshire County Council will now have the opportunity to expand additional services to both public and private sector organisations using the MPLS network.

These potentially include centrally-managed site environmental monitoring and control systems, as well as CCTV delivery to council properties.

Warwickshire County Council IT communications engineer Mark Woodward said with the Alcatel-Lucent based network, they now have a fast, available, centrally-managed, secure infrastructure to connect staff and help them share resources and knowledge.
