Wang Laboratories Inc has put together a cut-down version of its imaging client for Windows NT, saying customers have been asking for a simpler piece of code than the full-blown imaging client it’s been shipping. The move was made as part of a general polishing of its year-old Open/image and Open/workflow NT programs (CI No 2,660). The new imaging client, called the Windows: Client/Server Edition, is targeted at casual users and offers just basic image-viewing capabilities. Wang said that it’s also working on future releases that will turn the imaging client into an ActiveX control that can be used to build its imaging software into other applications. Windows: Client/Server Edition is scheduled to ship shortly along with the new version of Open/image and Open/workflow for Windows NT, which Wang says now account for almost 60% of its software revenues. Upgrades in the new versions include Windows NT 4.0 and SQL Server 6.5 support, SMS Systems Management Server support for distributing Wang client software, plus support for various Fujitsu Ltd and Bell & Howell Co scanners, as well as for Kofax Inc’s Ascent Capture and Cornerstone Imaging Inc’s Input Accel products as alternate capture subsystems.
