WANG PROMISES VS VM FACILITY

By CBR Staff Writer

Wang Laboratories accompanied its announcement of the new VS7000 business computers (CI No 599) with a promise that it will add a virtual machine facility for the VS operating system that will enable a single VS processor to be partitioned into multiple logical CPUs. As well as facilitating the running of the company’s new VS IN/IX implementation of Unix, the capability is likely to encourage third parties to offer support for environments such as Pick under VS, and could increase VS competition with IBM’s 9370s, since the VS includes the full basic IBM 370 instruction set. Wang VS7000 details are in page 2.
