WANG IS PART OF LUCENT’S $2.9BN NAVY VIVID CONTRACT

By CBR Staff Writer

The Government Services division of Wang Laboratories Inc is to provide the US Navy with technical services as part of its Voice, Video and Data contract. Lucent Technologies Inc is the primary contractor for the ViViD contract valued at $2.9bn which will run over a ten-year period, and has been commissioned to upgrade the Navy’s communications infrastructure. Lucent has selected a team of companies to carry out the work including Wang, NCI Information Systems Inc, BBN Corp, Bell South Corp and SBC Communications Inc, among others. Under the contract Wang is offering a range of desktop and network integration services, including helpdesk support, training, design and implementation, network management services and enterprise consulting. The government will then choose from the list of services Wang is offering which ones it wants to take up. Wang therefore does not know how much work it will carry out for the Navy, or indeed how much money it will receive, but it is certain that it will be involved for the entire ten years of the contract.
