Microsoft Corp and the Wang Global unit of Wang Laboratories Inc announced that they’ve expanded their existing alliance to develop products that combine Microsoft’s enterprise software platform and Wang Global’s consulting, support, integration and solutions offerings. The companies said they would focus on five areas: migration to Microsoft 32-bit desktop technologies; networking, messaging and intranet infrastructure; internet and electronic-commerce applications; networked technology services; and component-based vertical applications. As part of the deal, Wang says it’s training and certifying 2,500 staff as Microsoft certified systems engineers and developers. At the same time, Wang announced that, through a partnership with Dell Computer Corp, it will be offering free consulting and systems integration services to its federal government customers who purchase certain Dell servers bundled with Microsoft Exchange. The two say the initiative is being carried out to ease the transition for federal customers migrating from legacy systems to the Microsoft environment.
