Just after we’d closed for press last night, news came through that Wang Laboratories Inc is become an IBM reseller, taking the AS/400, the RS/6000, PS/2 – and an initial $25m investment from IBM that could grow to $100m, in the form of paper convertible into Wang Class B shares. Wang will continue to sell and enhance the VS, and its own personal computers in the short term. It is still deciding whether to continue its MIPS Computer Systems Inc machines. IBM may also license Wang’s image technology, but Wang chief Richard Miller insists it will remain an independent firm.
