WALT DISNEY LAUNCHES WEB SITE, DEBATES WHETHER ADDITIONAL MAGIC KINGDOM ON-LINE SERVICE IS VIABLE

By CBR Staff Writer

Launching its 2,500-page World Wide Web site, Walt Disney Co’s Disney Online said that although plans for a separate proprietary on-line service have been scrapped, a Magic Kingdom on-line service is still possible, but would not say more about what this meant to the company. The new site, at Disney.com, includes games and puzzles featuring Disney animated characters and information about Disney movies, television shows, music and other products. It will offer chat shops, real-time audio and live video feeds and on-line shopping through its page. Disney has been testing the Web site in recent weeks and claims as many as 2.5m hits per day: its server can handle up to 3m hits a day.
