WALL DATA GOES TO COURT OVER OPENCONNECT PATENT

By CBR Staff Writer

Wall Data Inc has fired back against its rival OpenConnect Systems Inc, which last week filed a lawsuit against Attachmate Corp for patent infringement over a core piece of its technology (CI No 3,497). Dallas, Texas-based OpenConnect said then that it was in discussions with numerous other companies about licensing its technology patent, which covers the maintenance of persistent sessions between a browser and a mainframe. Wall Data, based in Seattle, Washington, is seeking declaratory judgment against OpenConnect that Wall Data does not infringe OpenConnect’s patent. Wall Data’s product in this area, Cyberprise, is based on 15 years of development on its Rumba product suite, says the firm. Wall Data has partnerships with IBM Corp, Sun Microsystems Inc, Microsoft Corp and Netscape Communications Corp.
