Citing recently published job advertisements seeking a business manager to head what has been described as a new digital video category at Walmart.com, the FT said the retailer may have already settled a basic outline of a business plan.

Wal-Mart has recently been investing heavily on its digital presence. The Bentonville, Arkansas-based group launched its music download service in 2004, and this was significantly upgraded last month in an effort to boost sales in the shadow of Apple Computer’s iTunes.

According to the FT, the digital video business manager will also be required to innovate cross-channel strategies and product offerings, reflecting Wal-Mart’s online philosophy of encouraging customers to move between its website and its stores.
