The retail giant has been a big supporter of RFID, adopting the new technology during its infancy under previous CIO Linda Dillman. However, a recent management shakeup at the chain had raised fears that the implementation of RFID could be pushed into the background.

These fears have proved unfounded, with Wal-Mart making RFID labeling compulsory for all of its suppliers. The company said it sees the technology as offering a tremendous competitive advantage across all areas of its business and if anything was looking to speed up its implementation.

The company now plans to move onto generation two of the technology.
