The company said the latest release, dubbed VC3, performs twice as well as and costs half the price of proprietary networks from Cisco and other vendors.
The new version supports branch-to-branch or branch-to-HQ virtual private networking by supporting widely used cryptographic algorithms, including 3DES, AES (both 128-bit and 256-bit), MD5, and SHA1. In addition, IPsec VPN can be configured in a cluster of multiple Vyatta units with failover mechanisms.
VC3 also supports multi-link PPP (MLPPP), which enables users to increase WAN bandwidth by using multiple low-speed circuits, typically T1 links, in parallel. Vyatta said this means customers can adopt a pay-as-you-grow strategy instead of paying for a T3 upgrade.
Vyatta said the new software also has improved BGP scaling for faster routing convergence with peers. And added MD5-based neighbor authentication promises better routing security. Per-BGP peer policy support makes it easier to control route propagation, Vyatta said. Plus, there are new monitoring and troubleshooting commands.
Vyatta’s networking software has now been downloaded nearly 100,000 times, according to the company. The software can be deployed on server blades, dedicated appliances or virtual machines using VMWare or Xen.
