Volkswagen AG says that it will design and develop its next new car range using IBM and Dassault Systeme’s Catia digital mockup, minimizing the number of physical prototypes required and the time to market. Worldwide concurrent engineering with Catia will support our entire platform strategy by integrating development resources from all of our model ranges – Audi, SEAT, Skoda and VW and from our key suppliers in a completely digital process, said Martin Winterkorn, executive director of development at the carmaker. VW already uses Catia in interior and exterior body, electrical system and chassis design. The digital mock-up enables multi-disciplinary teams to design complex products on a network, as they all have access to the same data.
